As I watched this weeks video, I realized that this is very much the way I teach. I am all about my students being locked in to whatever benchmark we are covering. I am always looking for new and inventive ways to hook my students so they truly get the main concept of the lesson we are working through.
PowerPoint keeps coming up in almost all of the videos as a vital tool. I couldn't agree more. I especially like the idea of the students using what they are getting from the lesson and what they see to construct the PowerPoint. I think it is very important to nurture students creative side and to give them the opportunity to wow us (the teachers) more than us wowing the students!

ReplyDeleteI agree that power point is a great tool but I have also seen it used to the extreme. Some of my sophomore students moaned and complained when I assigned a power point project for geometry. They said they have done so many for history, six already this year, that they are sick of them. I think this is a good example of a good tool being used too much and burning out students.
I agree, I think we as teachers have to work together to keep technology as a great working tool and not burn the students out with it.
ReplyDeleteI feel that when students can actually teach learned information, they are finalizing the information into their brains. When using technology, such as PowerPoint, students are "doing" rather than merely reading or listening. The famous claim comes to mind:

10% of what they read,
20% of what they hear,
30% of what they see,
50% of what they see and hear,and
90% of what they do.
Obviously, when students are doing rather than the less engaging aforementioned, then their knowledge base will continue to grow and the title of lifelong learner can be attained.
